Overhanging Trees / Target Pruning
Pruning branches back from targets such as buildings, footpaths, roads, phone wires, satellite dishes or neighbouring properties.
Coppicing
The cutting of a tree down to its growth point, just above ground level, allowing the tree to regrow. Normally repeated every 5-15 years depending on the species.
Pollarding
The removal of all the upper branches which promotes the growth of a dense head of foliage and branches. Usually repeated every 5-10 years depending on the tree itself.
Hedge Management
The management of deciduous and conifer hedges to encourage structure, health and vitality.
Crown Reduction
Is the reduction of the leaf area of the tree, also known as the crown, used to make the crown smaller and more manageable. Reductions should be completed sympathetically and in proportion to a tree’s original shape.
Thinning
Crown thinning is the removal of a portion of smaller branches, through the crown, to product a uniform density of foliage leaving the tree in its original shape and size, but allowing more light through the crown. It is usually confined to broad-leaved species.
Dead-Wooding
Although dead-wood is good for wildlife and can be good for the tree, it often has to be managed for safety reasons.
Monolith / Felling / Grubbing
Monolith – a term used to leave a dying tree in a safe condition for a wildlife habitat.
Felling – removal of a tree to ground level.
Grubbing – usually completed on smaller trees where the stem and immediate roots are grubbed out by hand.
Stump Removal & Root Work
Where trees have been felled or there are old stumps that need removal, we can provide a stump grinding service, where a machine is used to grind out, usually 15-20cm of the stump below ground level.
Root pruning – tree roots may also be pruned where appropriate, for example to reduce issues with lifted paving.
Tree Reports / Survey
Tree reports/surveys can be arranged for building extensions, insurance and mortgage purposes, etc. We can also provide condition surveys and a maintenance schedule to care for your trees.
